A new year can bring hope and reflection

Divorce and New YearFor those who have gone through a difficult divorce or family law matter, the New Year can be a time of reflection.  It can also signify hope for the future.

It can often be helpful to analyze what has taken place without dwelling on the past.  This can involve assessing what has happened and taking an inventory of why certain events happened. Once you have taken a thoughtful look at the past, it is time to focus on the future.

This can involve a plan of what might need to be approached differently in the future.  It can involve a look at the finances to see how life might need to be re-arranged so that you are more financially stable.

It can involve looking at a person’s emotional wellbeing as well.  In what ways will life stay the same?  In what ways will life change? These are questions we mask ask ourselves.

Many people make New Year’s resolutions, but addressing your wellbeing needs to go a lot deeper.  Vowing to exercise or relax more in the new year is great, but it is not enough.  The process involves getting to a place where you can move forward with positivity versus getting hung up on the past or having regrets.  A strong reflection and commitment to moving on can be helpful in prioritizing your emotional wellbeing.

All of this can lead to hope for a better future.  What is done is done, and the past is in the past. Individuals who have gone through a divorce or family law matter cannot change what has happened. While it is hard to see it in the moment, everything in life happens for a reason. Difficult times exist to make us stronger.

A new year can be a time to reset and refocus to strive for a better and healthier future. Through hope and reflection, the New Year can provide the inspiration you need to move on and begin a new life towards happiness and wellbeing.
