Melanie attended DePaul University College of Law in Chicago, Illinois where she obtained her Juris Doctorate in 2020. During her first year in law school, Melanie was invited to join the DePaul Appellate Moot Court Society. While also in law school, she worked as a Legal Research Assistant while also serving in various roles including as the Executive Editor for the DePaul Law Review and as a member of the Symposium Committee. In 2021, Melanie was published by Volume 70 of the DePaul Law Review for her article: Alimony, Alimony Payin’ Your Bills: Rethinking the Termination of Maintenance for Cohabiting Under Illinois Law. She also worked as a Teaching Assistant helping with Legal Analysis Research and Communication and as the Vice President/Treasurer of the Veterans Advocacy Student Organization where she orchestrated yearly bake sales to help fund the Honor Flight Network that allows veterans to visit the memorials in Washington, D.C.. She was also the recipient of the CALI Excellence for the Future Award in 2017. Before studying law, Melanie obtained her Bachelor of Arts in English from the University of Illinois Urbana – Champaign. Currently, she is studying to obtain her Masters of Science in Accountancy/Tax from the same university. Melanie is currently licensed to practice law in the state of Illinois.
Before joining the Springfield, Illinois divorce lawyers at Stange Law Firm, PC, Melanie Eck has worked as an Associate Attorney and law clerk handling matters in the City of Chicago for Cook County and for other collar counties, such as Lake County, McHenry County, DuPage County, Kane County, and Winnebago County. While she was working to obtain her J.D., Melanie also spent time as a Law Clerk for several other firms throughout the Chicago area.
In her free time outside of practicing law, Melanie loves to bake complex desserts such as French Macarons and Sfogliatella, play video games, watch classic horror movies at the drive-in, paint with Bob Ross tutorials, and hike with her dog, Valentine.
